The Element of Equality AU was originally known as Starlight’s Universe, and was created by , however, I combined it with a few more AUs, such as the Applegems AU by .
The AU, since it’s a combination of the two, swaps Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer but as well as that, swaps;
Rarity-Sonata Dusk (originally swapped with Coco Pommel)
Applejack-Adagio Dazzle (originally swapped with Sugarcoat)
Rainbow Dash-Aria Blaze (originally swapped with Night Glider)
Pinkie Pie-Sugarbelle
Fluttershy-Marble Pie
Sunset Shimmer-Trixie Lulamoon
Double Diamond-Flash Sentry
Sunburst-Moondancer
Much like with the Wondercolts AU, this AU also swaps a lot of things related to the unicorn four (that is Twilight, Sunset, Starlight and Trixie);
· Twilght’s magic is more focused on protection, as a result the town is protected by a giant forcefield.
· Starlight’s magic is more focused on illusion and deception. Her magic is a bit more practical, and can be used outside of traditional arcane exploits.
· Sunset uses more offensive magic. Her version of the magic show in Boast Busters is a bit more explosive, think a combo of David Blaine and Mythbusters.
· Much like Starlight, Trixie’s magic is focused on illusion, but in a much different way; Starlight’s is focused on deception, while Trixie’s is focused much more on showmanship. Not sure how this would factor into her swapping with Sunset.
Also, there are changes with the unicorn 4's main careers (before they become princesses);
Twilight-Librarian
Sunset-Scientist
Starlight-? (Motivational Speaker? Activist?)
Trixie-Magician/Performer
Basic Plot for this AU;
Starlight Glimmer is a motivational speaker and activist, who is called by her superior Fleur De Leis to the small town of Ponyville. There she is to speak at the Summer Sun Celebration, an event that she is clearly worried about. The last time she went to Ponyville, it was with her best friend, Starburst, who disappeared after he went away to Canterlot. She's worried about messing something up, until she arrives and is given free reign around Ponyville.
It's there where she meets the Mane 5, and while uninterested in them specifically, she seems alright with making friends with them.
I personally headcanon that Sunset, even as a pony, would have been a bit of a bully. Her character arc in the first episode is losing most of those tendencies and making friends.Sunset is aggressive, angers easily, is prideful, is shown to be ambitious and cunning, but has a sweet and caring side that you have to dig through all of her shells to get to. In comparison, Twilight is passive, has a slow temper, is also prideful and ambitious (but not as much), and her main issue pre-ponyville was her focus on her studies and her inability to let her emotions out. So, while Sunset attacks directly, Twilight stands on the side-lines. Post EQG 1, Twilight finds it a bit harder to redeem herself. It's been established in canon that Twilight has a large guilt complex, as shown in Canterlot Wedding. So that would play into her sudden redemption.
She still acts like that when pissed, but it only comes out when someone's threatening her friends.
AU Twilight is still socially awkward, and thus is more of a manipulator from behind the scenes. Fall Formal forces her to show her face.
Chapter 1: Opening
---
“Woah, your very first Princess Summit, you must be over the moon, Sunset.”
The now Princess Sunset Shimmer looked at Sugarcoat for a minute and sighed, “Oh, I am excited, but, to be honest… I’m a little nervous too…”
Lemon Zest jumped up in front of her, “You’re nervicited!” She exclaimed, “It's like you wanna jump up and down and yell "YAY ME!!" But you also wanna curl up in a teeny-tiny ball and hide at the same time!” She uncurled from the ball, and placed a hoof on Sunset’s back, “We’ve all been there.”
Sour Sweet smirked, “Yeah, I don’t think you have…”
“Nothing to worry about, Sunset,” Sugarcoat reassured, “Everything's gonna be just–“
“SUNSET!”
The group jumped back at Sunny Flare’s sudden outburst.
“Oh, I’m sorry, sweetie,” Sunny began, “but I just realized you're not wearing your crown. You haven't forgotten it back in Ponyville, have you?”
Sunset tilted her head towards her bag, which Spike was carrying, “It’s in my bag…” She turned back to her friends, “I just feel a bit self-conscious about wearing it,” She gently unfolded her wings, “Not really used to these either.” She tried to at least get some aviation, but only collapsed straight onto her face.
“You are a princess now, Sunset,” Sunny began, “Embrace it! I'm telling you, if I had a crown like that, I would never take it off. Why, I'd sleep in the thing.”
